Job Description
Indiana Pork Producers Association is seeking a college student for a summer internship in
2026. Indiana Pork is a nonprofit organization that is responsible for promoting pork
consumption to Indiana consumers, educating the public on pork production practices,
encouraging youth to explore career opportunities in the pork industry, and supporting pork
producers in their business. This position will be a hybrid of both remote work and required
office hours in Indianapolis, Indiana. Weekly meetings will take place with supervisor and
Indiana Pork staff.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Skillathon Events
    • The All-Around Skillathon Series is a competitive event to test pork industry knowledge. There are three age divisions for 4-H Youth. Indiana Pork’s intern must:
      • Organize and facilitate the series of five (5) youth skillathon events
        specific to the pork industry from May to August to be held at three
        jackpot shows in the state, and both the barrow & gilt weekends at the
        Indiana State Fair
      • Compost pork production questions relevant to three youth age levels
      • Promote the competition and results on youth social media channels
      • Travel to multiple locations which may require overnight stays
      • Compile and maintain scores for the series
      • Plan for the design and selection of awards at each event
      • Assist with the skillathon at the 2026 NJSA Summer Spectacular to be held at the Summer Type Conference in Indianapolis in July.
  • Certified Indiana Bred
    • Certified Indiana Bred is a program managed by Indiana that promotes Indiana
      bred purebred showpigs exhibited by Indiana youth. Indiana breeders enroll
      annually to allow barrows and gilts from their herd to be eligible for a $500
      award for the highest placing in each purebred c

      • Create a communications and social media campaign
      • Assist with check-in at the Indiana State Fair on both barrow & gilt weekends
      • Assist with incoming online advanced entries
      • Assist with data entry of participant contact information
      • Assist in result calculation and award ceremony
  • Work-Based Learning Pilot Program
    • Assist Assist with the development and delivery of programs to facilitate work-based
      learning experiences among Indiana High Schools and Ag producers/businesses
      to fulfill labor needs within the industry.
    • Assist with meeting logistics to include gathering and organizing meeting
      documents, taking notes, and contact information of participants.
    • Assist in documenting success stories of success pork production work-based
      learning experiences among Indiana youth and employers.
  • Indiana State Fair Pork Tent Coordination
    • Assist with tent volunteer coordination and communications
    • Create consumer outreach content including social media and signage in the tents

 

Job Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in the agriculture field
  • Swine industry experience preferred
  • Must be available to work three weekends of the Indiana State Fair
  • Willing to work in a team environment in a hybrid, remote culture
  • Self-driven and motivated to complete tasks on time
  • Ability to learn social media content creation
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
