Degree Focus

Science education encompasses both knowledge and process, and its study helps us understand and advance the natural world. Science based education majors will learn effective methods to teach students the ways in which science enables and impacts our lives. Graduates may pursue careers in traditional classroom settings, museum educators, extension education programs, industry trainer and community and public awareness. It also provides a foundation for advanced study in education, law or certain health-related fields.

Additional Degrees & Concentrations

(BS) - From our food supply to personal health and the environment, agriculture is a foundational component of life’s sustainability—supporting basic needs of food, shelter and access to water. Graduates may pursue careers in traditional classroom settings, extension education programs, industry trainer and community and public awareness.

(Concentration) - A chemistry education concentration focuses on effective methods for teaching secondary level students about atoms and molecules, stoichiometry, states of matter, chemical reactions, the periodic table, solutions, gases, acids and bases and other chemistry curricula subjects. In addition to coursework, students will learn hands-on application for laboratory experiential teaching methods and specialized lesson planning.

(Concentration) - Students pursuing a physics education concentration will learn effective secondary education teaching methods centered around the natural laws of physics. Concepts specific to this concentration may include forces, momentum and collision, work and energy, circular motion and gravity, lens refraction and additional physics curricula subjects.

(Concentration) - Students interested in focusing on biology education will learn effective teaching methods for life sciences at either a middle and/or high school level. Concepts specific to this concentration may include cell structure and function, evolution, genetics and ecology.

(Concentration) - A concentration in earth & space science education will prepare secondary education techniques including models of Earth, plate tectonics, Earth's structure, erosion, weather and climate, natural resources, oceans, solar systems, stars and cosmology.

As a past FFA state officer, Cait has a lot of experience in agriculture education. From the time she was young, she knew education was her future. With strong interests in calculus and agriculture, the agbiosciences were the perfect fit for Cait. Cait sees opportunity both inside and outside of the classroom and looks forward to entering the industry after spending time in the classroom teaching.
